What is a Dart Check Out Chart?
A Dart Check Out Chart is a tool used by dart players to help them figure out how to finish a game. The check-out chart lists the different combinations of numbers that can be used to finish a game and provides a guide for which numbers should be targeted in order to achieve the desired score.
Finishing on a double when playing 501 (or other 01 games) is the only way to win as if you go over the required points to get to zero, it’s called busting and your turn is finished regardless of how many darts you’ve thrown.
The math of darts can be tricky for a beginner and having a check-out chart shows you quickly and easily the possible combination of darts that will result in a win.
Remember that the possible finishes shown in the chart are perhaps not the only way for you to check out. For example to check out with 50 points left there are 3 options:
- Single 10, Double 20
- Single 18, Double 16
- Double Bull
Only the basic option will be shown on the chart. This is usually the safest. In the example above on how to check out with 50 points, the first method is the safest. If you try the second method, you risk busting if you accidentally hit triple 18. And of course, the third method of finishing on a double bull is extremely difficult.
Why Are Some Numbers Missing from the Chart?
If your chart goes as high up as 170, you’ll notice that there are some numbers missing as it counts down. This is simply because it’s not possible to check out using 3 darts if you have this score remaining. These numbers are:

Why Does a Check Out Chart Start at 170?
Check-out charts begin at 170 because you can’t check out using a double with a higher score. The most points you can get with 1 dart is 60 (triple 20). The highest scoring double in darts is the double bull (50 points).
- Triple 20 (60) + Triple 20 (60) + Double Bull (50) = 170
