The thing about a good dartboard is if it’s really high quality with hardly any bounce-outs, amazing self-healing with superb color saturation and clear numbers…you stop noticing it’s there! You don’t want to be thinking about a board during a match or concentrated practice. You just want to get on with it and forget completely about the dartboard.
A high-quality, durable dartboard that will withstand the test of time, and help you forget it’s there is the Winmau Blade 6 Triple Core. Perhaps the best so far from Winmau (pronounced winmore).

About Dual Core Technology
First introduced in 2013, dual-core technology added an extra dimension to the board and adds another layer of sisal fibers to the play surface. This extra depth of compression aids with dart retention as the outer core lets darts enter the board easily while the inner core is packed with more compressed sisal fibers that help slow down the dart and absorb its kinetic energy.
This setup is specifically designed to improve the rate of bounce-outs and also help with self-healing properties. There is also a reassuring sound from this board and we’re already starting to fall in love with that thud.
WINMAU Blade 6 Triple Core Carbon Professional Bristle Dartboard
Introducing the new WINMAU Blade 6 Triple Core Carbon Professional Bristle Dartboard.
This top-of-the-line dartboard is the most technologically advanced available and features a revolutionary Triple-Core sisal base and Sixth Generation Blade technology for optimal fiber density and maximum scoring.
The all-new patented system with a seamless playing surface and high compression layer with carbon fiber reinforced sisal provides optimal dart retention and maximum scoring potential.
Searching for the ultimate in dartboard construction, the WINMAU Blade 6 Triple Core Carbon Professional Bristle Dartboard is in our opinion one of the better dartboards available right now and well worth the extra investment.
What are the Main Upgrades from the Blade 5 Dual Core?
Let’s look at what they made better from the Winamu Blade 5 Dual Core board which is an excellent dartboard:
- Bullseye, triple, double density. An issue with previous boards has been the smaller areas, i.e the bullseye, the triples and the doubles, were just a bit too tight. The surface are also becuase tighter over time. On the Blade 6 triple core the fibers in theis area have been deliberately adjusted so they play much more like other areas of the board.
- Durability. By adding another core they’ve increased the dartboards’s durability and improved on an already excellent standard set by the Blade 5 Dual Core.
- HD Numbers. Although some have an attachment to the traditional wire numbers, the truth of it is they are harder to read than these high contrast, stunning new numbers that are clear as day and are clean and crisp taking the uniformity of each board ot the next level.
Features
Winmau claims that this is the most technologically advanced dartboard in the world so let’s take a closer look at why they might be on to something. The features of the Winmau Blade 6 Triple Core are advertised as follows:
- 60 degree angle blade wire
- Ultra thin wire
- 25% thinner bullseye and outer bullseye
- Max crital scoring area
- Technology developed over 30 years
- Density control
- Carbon fiber reinforced base layer
- Laser cut steel number ring
- Rota-lock levelling system
Our Thoughts After a Few Months of Use
Admittedly I wasn’t a fan of the HD numbers when Unicorn first introduced them on their competition match boards. However, it’s something that definitely grows on you.
I now find I prefer it and the old-style traditional wire numbers just look….old. The new HD numbers are so much clearer and it’s a case of Unicorn coming up with the concept and Winmau running with it and making it better. In comparison to the Unicorn HD2 Pro the numbers on the Blade 6 are just so much clearer.
It was really easy to set up with the rota-lock system and the included spirit level and a nice touch of included an out chart card. After many hours of play, I’ve experienced a couple of bounce-outs which is excellent.
So far, it’s an excellent board and highly recommended. Ours did arrive with the number ring slightly dented, but it was easy to correct and looks great now. We’ll be rotating regularly to keep this sisal looking as fresh as possible…but we think you’ll like this one.
Is it Worth the Upgrade?
If you already have a blade 5 dual-core, it’s probably not worth the upgrade unless you are really enthused to get the latest board.
However, if you’ve only ever had cheaper dartboards, this is well worth the investment. For any casual players who want to show off to their darts buddies, we’d point you in this direction to get a top-of-the-range board.

What are the Cons?
In our opinion, there are not many cons to this dartboard. However, not everyone will like the orange color red instead of the traditional red of dartboards. We think it’s done deliberately to match the Winmau brand color and we like it – it stands out, it still maintains a level of uniformity as it’s not drastically different, but it may not be to everyone’s taste.
It is probably the most expensive bristle steel tip dartboard out there right now but if you have the budget it’s definitely worth the investment if you are at all focused on the quality of the dartboard. This will last too if the previous model was anything to go by.
Final Thoughts
Winmau are leading the way in darts tech and it’s interesting what new innovations they come out with year on year. How many cores can we get to?! For now, we think 3 is a good balance and we’re looking forward to getting some serious play time from our new board.
