Why Would a Player Choose Front-weighted Darts?
Front weighted soft tip darts are what is known as ‘front loaded’ or sometimes even ‘pro grip’. The term ‘front weighted’ means that more of the weight is closer to the front of the dart, rather than positioned in the middle or back.
Front-weighted darts tend to suit players who grip the dart at the front or middle of the barrel. If you are a rear gripper, these darts are not for you. The front weighted tends to suit a lob-like throw with a parabolic flight path. A center-weighted one tends to suit a harder straight throw. Lighter darts will tend to be thrown harder anyway, so this leads them to have a straighter flight path.
NOTE: Some players opt for front weighted darts over back weighted darts because they believe they require less effort in throwing and can therefore throw with a higher velocity even when using a lighter grip. Another reason is that front-weighted darts naturally tend to go towards the board and follow the trajectory of their nose-dive once they lose momentum, allowing for a slightly straighter flight path.
Front-loaded darts are somewhat more difficult to learn how to throw, but new players quickly become accustomed to them.
